Our previous posts introduced the Advanced Manufacturing Industry Transformation Plan and a summary of the first priority. Here we provide a brief overview of the second priority area:
Priority 2:
Developing and attracting a diverse high-skilled high-wage workforce
Initiatives 5 – 9 are related to the skills required to enable the ITP to deliver on its objectives. Generally they cover a skills system map looking at the long term skills requirements of the workforce, individual development plans and attraction strategies.
Of particular interest is one of the ‘priority initiatives’ (those highlighted during the public consultation phase) – Initiative 7. This looks to improve the digital and foundational skills in the workforce. Particularly apt when reflecting on the change management & people impact of technology adoption. Without the requisite skills anxiety can quickly take hold in the workforce when technology changes are being implemented.
Specifically Initiative 7 highlights the Digital skills for Manufacturing Micro-credential which has been running successfully across the country for over a year, looking to promote this further to achieve 1000 participants. Alongside The Learning Wave, LMAC were key to the creation of this micro-credential. This initiative aligns well with the significant development already going into the further levels of this training, supported by Make NZ.
